Words & Music Dear RSVP: Listeners Share Music, Life and Laughter with Leon Cole was the very first Good Cheer project. More recently it has been joined by a recording called The RSVP Collection and Leonard Isaacs: Five Lives in One, the memoirs of a grand old man of Canadian music. Dear RSVP: Listeners Share Music, Life and Laughter with Leon Cole For a decade Leon Cole hosted RSVP, one of CBC Stereo’s most popular classical music programmes. 300,000 Canadians tuned in every weekday. Its success was based on a simple democratic idea - play the music that people ask to hear. Frequently, there were stories to go with the requests; stories that were personal, poignant and often funny. There were tales of triumph and disaster on stage and unlikely insights into great performers and composers. There were letters linking music to majestic landscapes and exotic locales as well as the devastation of war. There were commentaries on the role of music in making us human - and humane. Many of these letters and conversations have been collected in Dear RSVP: Listeners Share Music, Life and Laughter with Leon Cole. It appeals to fans of the radio show as well as those of you who are interested in learning more about classical music. Editing the 320 page book was a labour of love for Leon Cole and Jacqui Good. They’ve included backstage gossip about the show, candid photos, top ten lists and plenty of the quizzes that listeners relished. Want to try one? Now there’s also The RSVP Collection on CD - over an hour of classical music favourites selected by listeners - along with a 16 page booklet. Dear RSVP and The RSVP Collection are each available for $8 US/$11 Canadian (shipping included.) Place your order here! "Leon Cole should be bottled, cloned and injected into anyone who dares utter a word on the airwaves." Rave reviews for Dear RSVP "The content is charming and informative.
